Introduction: Week 1

Hi, my name is Heather Summers. I'm from Morgantown, WV and I am a mathematics teacher at North Marion High School. However, I'm transferring schools to East Fairmont High School for the following year.

I want to be able to find creative ways to incorporate 21st century skills with my math content within the classroom.

What it means to be literate in the 21st century:

  1. Hi Heather! I enjoyed your comic. It really illustrates how social media sites have become a modern day diary.

  3. Love your RSS feed comic! There's a computer literacy component/certification my students can earn, and they need to know what an RSS feed is to pass (which I just learned about myself!).. I think a lot of them think of an RSS as chicken feed!!

  4. Hi Heather! I am a sixth grade mathematics teacher in Wheeling! I have done all of my clinical work and most of my subbing at Blackshere and Mannington Middle! It is great to know another girl is in the math field!

  5. Hello Heather! I love your comic about Twitter in Education. It's true how a lot of people think of social media as a public daily record of what they've done. I think I'm too private of a person to personally relate to that, but it is definitely true to others especially younger students who don’t realize their audience on the world wide web.

  7. Heather, I could use your high school math lessons in my life! Our ten year old already knows her dad has to help with math homework. Good luck in your new classroom.
